  • Description
  • More details

Viraclor is an antimicrobial solution containing 5.0% available Chlorine as Sodium Hypochlorite with an in-built detergent system. It is intended as a reliable for general use in hospitals on both animate and inanimate surfaces.

Most importantly it offers excellent sanitising properties against significant microorganisms, which are becoming increasingly troublesome to control due to increasing incidence of acquired resistance.

Chlorine compounds are well recognised as a sanitiser for selected application in hospitals and more recently greater emphasis is being placed on the use of these compounds.

CHEMICAL DESCRIPTION:

VIRACLOR contains 5.0% w/v available chlorine as Sodium Hypochlorite or in terms

of parts per million: 50,000 p.p.m. Modern usage normally relates disinfection ability

to the quantity of “available chlorine” in parts per million present in the working

solution.

DETERGENCY:

The detergent system in VIRACLOR is based on a highly active non-ionic species

with good detergency, fast wetting and excellent soil penetration. The surfactant was

chosen after close analysis of available surfactants known to be mild and non-irritant

to normal skin.

As the wetting power of hypochlorite solutions is poor, the incorporation of a

detergent system is of major importance as detergency improves the access of the

disinfectant to bacterially laden soils. It also decreases the risk of unqualified

personnel adding detergent to a disinfectant to suit their own cleaning requirements,

which may or may not inactivate the disinfectant. With VIRACLOR this temptation is

removed.

MANUFACTURING PROCESS:

Unlike most common Sodium Hypochlorite solutions of industrial standard, the

manufacturing process of VIRACLOR is aimed to achieve a medical standard

suitable for use in hospitals. It is manufactured in an ISO 13485 Accredited plant.

The plant is licensed under ISO 13485 by the Therapeutic Goods Administration and

also under ISO 9001:2000 by Standards Australia.

The water used in manufacture is completely deionised. Being a stabilised product,

accurate p.p.m. can be obtained by the dilutions recommended. Solutions over 5%

available chlorine are unstable and to achieve accurate p.p.m., the available chlorine

should be determined prior to dilution.

RECOMMENDATIONS FOR USE:

To obtain required p.p.m. available chlorine: 1 mL VIRACLOR per 1 litre water gives

50 p.p.m.

The following quantities of chlorine are strongly recommended for Hospital Use.

1. 10000 p.p.m. for sanitising of items soiled with blood.

2. 1000 p.p.m. in presence of organic material other than blood

3. 100 – 200 p.p.m. in absence of organic material.

Care should be exercised with blood spills on carpets as Sodium Hypochlorite

solution will bleach the carpet. It is recommended that VIRACLEAN should be used

on carpets.

Reference should also be made to the National Infection Control Guidelines.
