Blockade Base Coat Stone Sealer

  • Description
  • More Details

Concrete, exfoliated granite and porous stone or paver sealer. Odourless, water-based, non-yellowing acrylic, superior adhesion, quick drying.

Unique chemistry provides an abrasion resistant sealer for concrete, stone and terrazzo. Unique oil compatibility so it cannot peel off old factory floors. Ideal pre-sealer for terrazzo and covered outdoor use.

BLOCKADE is a new “one step” super tough, water based sealer that provides maximum protection on all types of concrete, rough stone surfaces, terrazzo, brick pavers and porous terracotta. It is particularly effective on exfoliated granite surfaces on semi exposed entrances and foyers as well as its main use of concrete floor sealing in stairwells, on factory and warehouse floors. Its non yellowing film is tough, glossy and more importantly dries and cures quickly, to enable fast re-use (such as in loading docks, hospitals) plus offers extremely high resistance to grease, water, food, acid and chemical spillages.

The formulation of BLOCKADE is such that its high adhesion on floors that have been previously heavily saturated with oils and grease makes it a virtual foolproof and safe product to use.

Its simplicity of use, odour free application and ease of stripping with water based stripper, makes BLOCKADE the sealer of choice in food processing factories where solvent borne urethane and epoxies cannot be used due to their high odour and toxicity.

Long Life Due to High Adhesion

No matter how good the concrete sealer formulation or how tough a film it produces these are meaningless if the sealer cannot adhere to the concrete or stone. BLOCKADE is superior in its adhesion over other water based sealers or direct to the substrate.

Summary of Advantages

  • BLOCKADE remains flexible under all temperature conditions and will not “flick off” in freezer rooms or turn yellow or soften under window glass in full sunlight.
  • Forklift traffic leaves a very low level of tyre mark transfer, the high adhesion level and film toughness lowers the chance of “drive off”.
  • Recoats easily - unlike epoxies and urethanes BLOCKADE can be cleaned and recoated without fear of inter-coat hazing or delamination. You can recoat after 30 minutes in summer.
  • Highest adhesion to old oily floors when compared to any water based concrete sealer we have tested. The tape test can prove it. **
  • Solvent free and odour free water based formulation - can be used in food processing factories without the need to remove food items from the site and can be applied without special equipment, all you need is a string mop or wax applicator.

Directions for use

Ensure that concrete has cured for more than 24 days prior to application. As a base for new terrazzo ensure that it is 14 days set-dry.

Preparation

New Floors - Rough Stone, Terracotta, Terrazzo

  1. Sweep or dust mop to remove loose debris or grit.
  2. Damp mop with NEUTRACLEAN or hose to remove embedded grit. This is not necessary if surface is smooth and grit free. Acid washing will only be necessary if surface has concrete or slops residue.

Oil Soiled Floors

  1. Sweep thoroughly. Machine scrub with CROSSFIRE or NEUTRACLEAN to 20 parts water, if greasy or dirty. Most previously sealed floors need not be stripped except if flaky or powdery. BLOCKADE can be applied over both solvent or water based sealers.
  2. Rinse floor thoroughly with pressure blaster, hose or auto scrub using clean water.
  3. Apply in full even coats using a mop or lambs wool applicator. Whilst BLOCKADE is low foaming, it may be only possible to use a lambs wool roller on wood floated concrete, rough stone or exfoliated granite.
  4. For best results apply 2 or 3 coats unless the surface is to be top coated with another finish and BLOCKADE used as a base sealer. One or two coats are usually enough for this application. Allow at least half an hour between coats and 1 hour in cold climates. Do not lay BLOCKADE on surfaces colder than 5 degrees C. as complete curing may not take place. Floor may be opened for foot traffic within 1 hour after drying and heavy wheeled traffic in 6 hours.

Application Rates

Steel trowelled (smooth) concrete
1st coat average 30 sq metres per litre 2nd and further coats 40 sq metres per litre

Wood floated (rough) concrete and rough stone:
1st coat average 20 sq metres per litre 2nd and further coats 30 sq metres per litre

Exfoliated granite and terrazzo
1st coat average 20 sq metres per litre 2nd and further coats 40 sq metres per litre

Maintenance

Maintain with CROSSFIRE, NEUTRACLEAN or SUPASTAR detergents and degreasers depending on soilage.

For best results, floors should be patch coated in wear areas periodically to maintain a high level of protection and appearance.

Floor sealed with BLOCKADE can be easily recoated or touched up in traffic areas. Simply sweep, clean, rinse, allow to dry, then re-coat or patch coat.

Where a higher gloss or extra buffability is required, e.g. terrazzo, BLOCKADE should be coated with 2-3 coats of FILMSTAR, GLAZER or MARBLETECH.
